Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu Dojo, Victoria BC Canada

Winter 2017 Training

Taosphere Hakkei Dojo (also known as the Hakkei Dojo or THD) offers training in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu (koryu budo) and ARC Defensives (defense of person).

ARC Defensives is the Hakkei Dojo’s unique approach to defense of person (i.e., defense of self and defense of other). Through three foundational principles of ARC Defensives – Awareness, Responsibility, Culpability – the Hakkei Dojo’s Winter 2017 training session explores taijutsu in relationship to defense of person, with a particular focus on by-stander intervention and tactical awareness.

Defense of Person:

  • Awareness – How individual actions contribute to the outcomes of altercations.
  • Responsibility – Making purposeful choices to reduce tension and violence.
  • Culpability – Developing plans of action before danger coalesces.

Koryu Budo:

  • Awareness – Using body posture and mental attitude to influence the outcome of events.
  • Responsibility – Understanding the principles of physics (two bodies interacting in space and time) and philosophies of aesthetics (mental attitudes both projected from and hidden within the physical).
  • Culpability – Developing the ability to choose how much damage is suffered by the self or an aggressor during an altercation (e.g., defense without the infliction of damage, defense wherein an aggressor’s actions causes the aggressor’s suffering, and defense by offense).
