Mistakes don't lessen you, they lesson you.
Sherrie Silman, licensed Bujinkan instructor, leads instruction at the Hakkei dojo.
Ms. Silman began training in the martial arts as a teenager and has studied and ranked in several martial forms. Having been an official member of the Bujinkan since 1997 she has had the privilege of studying with a variety of Shidoshi and Shihan over the years. The eclectic nature of her training has become the cornerstone of her teaching style as she encourages students to pursue a variety of perspectives from within and without the Bujinkan. It is Ms. Silman's assertion that attaining formless and natural movement requires an open mind and that an open mind ought to be cultivated throughout one's life.
Sherrie is a well-known figure in her community, both as a volunteer and as a peacekeeper. She has worked as a volunteer paramedic with St. John Ambulance, ground and swift-water SAR, and as a counselor for several community outreach programs. With a proclivity for acting as an intermediary between those who communicate in the language of violence and those who unwittingly enter such 'conversations', Sherrie has survived the practical application of (training) principles in empty-handed combat against armed and unarmed assailants/combatants.
A recognized multi-disciplinary artist whose work has figured in several events and galleries annually for the past eight years, Sherrie is currently employed as a writer and photographer in addition to her ongoing volunteer work within the community.
